World’s Shortest Route Terminated

Just months after instating the world’s shortest flight, Vienna headquartered People’s Viennaline will be terminating the route.

Shortest flight

In November 2016, People’s Viennaline inaugurated the world’s shortest international jet route from St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport in Switzerland to Friedrichshafen Airport in Germany. The flight took just 8 minutes and was part of the St.Gallen/Altenrhein-Friedrichshafen-Cologne/Bonn route.

In March 2017, only 2,300 people traveled on the route forcing the airline to shutdown the route by mid-April 2017.

Fleet

The airline currently operates a fleet of 2 Embraer 170 aircraft, which are mostly used to fly seasonal charters.
