Wizz Air, the largest airline in Romania and one of Europe's fastest growing airlines, celebrated today the two-year anniversary of its Sibiu base with the deployment of a second aircraft to the local fleet and the inauguration of 5 new routes. The modern 180-seater Airbus A320 aircraft will support the operations of the newest services available from Sibiu to Copenhagen, Tel Aviv, Paris Beauvais, Basel and Frankfurt Hahn, as well the increased frequencies to 4 popular destinations from Sibiu: London Luton, Memmingen, Nurember and Dortmund. In total, WIZZ schedule will have 20 additional weekly flights departing from Sibiu.

WIZZ’s local base operations are increasing with 70% in 2018, offering nearly half a million seats on sale to 11 destination in 8 countries, with ticket fares available from as little as LEI 39*. The total investment in the Sibiu base is exceeding $200 million** and is further stimulating the local job market, employing a local team of more than 70 aviation professionals and supporting over 350 jobs*** on a yearly basis in the region in the affiliated industries.

In the first five months of 2018, the increasing demand for WIZZ services and its low fares is reflected by more than 110,000 passengers that traveled on board of the airline’s flights from Sibiu.

Over the past four years, since WIZZ started to operate from Sibiu, the company has provided affordable travel opportunities from the Transylvanian city to some of the most popular destinations in Europe and beyond, while contributing to the development of the local community and economy, as well as stimulating the job market in aviation and tourism sectors. Since the first WIZZ flight took off from Sibiu in 2014, more than 653,918 (until end of May 2018)passengers have enjoyed WIZZ’s low fares, easy booking system and excellent on-board service, to and from Sibiu.

Already the largest airline in Romania, Wizz Air is offering now 142 routes to 22 countries (including one domestic flight Bucharest – Cluj Napoca) across Europe from 10 Romanian airports. In 2018, 20 new routes have already been announced in Romania, such as the popular destinations of Athens from Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca, Nice, Lyon, or Malmo and Thessaloniki from Iași. Wizz Air is operating from 10 airports in Romania with a young fleet of 25 aircraft including 5 of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seater Airbus A321, and the team currently working across the country is exceeding 1,000 local employees.
