Wizz Air Announces A New Base Palermo

Wizz Air, Europe's fastest growing airline announced today its 42 base in Palermo. The airline will base 2 Airbus A321 aircraft at Palermo airport in June 2021. Along with the establishment of the 4 Wizz Air base in Italy, Wizz Air announced 7 new services from Palermo and 4 other domestic Italian services from Bologna, Brindisi, Pisa, Milan Malpensa and Catania from June 2021. Wizz Air’s history in Italy dates back to 2004 when the first departed from Bergamo to Katowice. The airline has carried 41 million passengers to and from Italy in the past 17 years. As part of Wizz Air’s expansion, the airline continues to increase its operations in Italy with domestic and international flights. The 2 Airbus A321 aircraft will support the operations of eleven new routes connecting the following 10 cities: Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (Euroairport), Bologna, London Luton, Milan Malpensa, Pisa, Torino, Treviso, Verona, Brindisi, Cagliari totalling in more than 1,000,000 additional seats on sale from Italy in 2021. Wizz Air’s extensive network will Italy’s economy as well as connect more and more awaited destinations.

The establishment of Wizz Air’s 4 base in Italy today, further reinforces the airline’s commitment to Italy and to sustainable and environmentally conscious operations. The new domestic routes will enable passengers to travel within Italy in a sustainable and safe way, while the routes connecting Italy with the United Kingdom and Switzerland will strengthen economic ties between these regions and countries, supporting the ramp up of the local tourism sector while creating over 750 jobs in the associated industries**.

Wizz Air is an investment grade credit rated airline, with a fleet of an average age of 5.4 years comprising of the currently available most efficient and sustainable Airbus A320 and Airbus A320neo family single aisle aircraft. Wizz Air’s carbon-dioxide emissions were the lowest among European airlines in FY2019 (57.2 gr/km/passenger). Wizz Air has the largest order book of 268 aircraft of the state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo family which will enable the airline to further reduce its environmental footprint by 30% for every passenger until 2030.
