Chicago, IL; October 10th, 2019 –Viva Aerobus’ CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua presented in a press conference and a meeting with travel agencies Viva’s five new seasonal routes from/to Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Mexican cities Guadalajara, Leon, Monterrey, Morelia, and Zacatecas.

Along with Gabriela Ibarra, Zacatecas’ Tourism Undersecretary, he celebrated the enrichment of connectivity between Mexico and the United States during a time of high demand. The new routes will operate from December 7th, 2019 to January 12th, 2020 with Mexico’s youngest fleet, consisting of 36 Airbus A320 aircrafts with an average age of 3.8 years and a capacity of 186 passengers each.

In the words of Gabriela Ibarra, “these flights become tourism growth’s allies in all destinations they connect, and such an accessible offer becomes a key for passengers in Mexico and the U.S. to be closer than ever. Particularly, at a key moment: the end of the year.”

Services from Leon, Monterrey, and Zacatecas will be offered twice a week; Morelia-Chicago will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays; and Guadalajara-Chicago will be a daily flight. Flights have a starting fare of $156 for a single trip.

“Routes were design with a firm commitment to the Mexican migrant community. The goal is to meet their needs with reliable and accessible flight options that bring Chicago closer to the community’s five most important cities in Mexico,” said Viva Aerobus’ CEO, Juan Carlos Zuazua.

With this announcement, Viva Aerobus arrives for the first time to Chicago. It is backed by 13 years of experience and an ultra-low-cost business model known for its operative efficiency, focus on customer service, Mexico’s newest fleet, and competitively priced flights tailored to each passenger.

This way, Viva is positioned as one of the Mexican airlines with the highest growth and expansion. More than 8.7 million people have placed their trust on Viva in 2019. The airline has reported a constant increase in the number of its passengers throughout the year; particularly, with a 20% increase between January and September 2019 in comparison to the same period in 2018.

In this sense, 2019 has been distinguished by a series of achievements and milestones in the airline's history. In June, July, and August, Viva Aerobus consecutively broke its own record on number of passengers, surpassing one million customers per month. In response to such constant travelers’ preference, the company has added 23 routes to its offer so far this year, reaching a total of 100 domestic and 18 international routes.

Regarding Viva Aerobus in the U.S., the carrier first arrived in the country in 2008 and it now offers 16 direct flights to/from Cincinnati, Charlotte, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, and now Chicago.

"As a result of our unique service, we have increased the number of passengers who choose Viva Aerobus as their flight option from/to the U.S. by 69% between January-August 2019 vs. 2018. We have transported more than 379 thousand travelers in total," Zuazua said.
