Cancun, Quintana Roo, October 30, 2019.- In order to offer passengers a diversified flight portfolio, Viva Aerobus, Mexico's ultra-low-cost carrier, generated strategic alliances with Mexican tour operators and Cuban receptors, such as MerelyTours and Cubatur, to connect Cancun with Havana on new charter flights.

Bárbara Cruz, Director General of Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba, mentioned that “these new flights arrive to open the doors of the island, adding efforts to guarantee the connectivity of the tourists in order to enjoy all the attractions in Cuba".

In addition, Walfred Castro, Corporate Communications Director of Viva Aerobus said that “this service meets the needs of customers within a context characterized by high demand and a reduced offer to fly this route. Thus, we give a boost to passenger traffic between two key destinations which are doors to the international market. Thus, we help tourism growth in both countries”.

This service will start on November 1st and offer 3 weekly frequencies, operating Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Passengers will enjoy these flights with Viva´s identity signs: Airbus A320 aircraft, which integrate the youngest Mexican fleet with an average age of 3.8 years; a customer-focused service and nearly 13 years of experience and reliability.

“We now fly to two Cuban destinations from Cancun: Camaguey and Havana. We are excited to explore and create options that adapt to all types of passengers. And, with charter flights, we join forces with key players in the tourism sector that enrich the customers’ experience, for example, by offering complete travel packages,” explained Walfred Castro.

According to Reinaldo Lugones, Director of MerelyTours, "thanks to our strategic partner Viva Aerobus, we can offer our clients an economic option with excellent quality to travel to Cuba and, combining the two routes Havana and Camagüey, we offer a greater diversity of programs that allow the tourist to visit the Cuban East; thus materializing the connectivity with the tourist poles of this area, which will result in an increase of tourists to Cuba ”.

During January – September 2019, Viva Aerobus transported nearly 1.8 million passengers from / to Cancun; this implied an increase of 11% compared to the same period of 2018.

As a result of this traveler’s preference and Viva Aerobus commitment to the connectivity of this city, the airline also inaugurated two new regular routes this year from Cancun to Hermosillo and Tijuana, thus reaching a total of 23 routes from that entity.
