Hanoi, April 26th, 2018 – Vietnam Airlines’ strong profitability continues in the first quarter of 2018:
The growth of the aviation market in the first months of 2018 exceeded the forecasts for both domestic and international routes, serving a total of 16.6 million passengers. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines’ operated nearly 33,000 safe flights, rose by 4.3 % over the same period last year and transported 5 million passengers which represents an increase of 5 % over the same period last year. Demand remains high in Northeast Asian markets (Japan, South Korea), together with the implementation of market-driven solutions in the condition of high fuel prices, Vietnam Airlines has achieved impressive business results in the first quarter of 2018.
Vietnam Airlines’ total consolidated revenue was estimated at VND 25.5 trillion while the parent company's revenue was estimated at VND 18.6 trillion, a rise of 13% from the same period last year. The Group’s pre-tax consolidated profit reached VND 1.46 trillion, up 6.2% compared to the planned figure. Meanwhile, the pre-tax profit of the parent company was VND 875 billion, a surge of more than 30% over the same period last year and 13% more than the target.
During the 3-month-period, especially traditional Lunar New Year holiday, Vietnam Airlines provided consistent 4-star service quality with high passenger satisfaction and punctuality index. Vietnam Airlines is among the world's leading airlines in on-time performance, scoring OTP at 90% averagely.
The application of information technology has enabled Vietnam Airlines to not only provide the most useful services for passengers but also contribute to reducing the pressure of infrastructure for airports, especially Tan Son Nhat airport. The rate of self-check-in via web / mobile or check-in at kiosk at Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai and Da Nang airports has reached a high level with nearly 50% of passengers doing check in by themselves in the first quarter of 2018.
Until March 31 2018, Vietnam Airlines has more than 6700 employees with good average productivity. By enhancing stable development, professional working environment and remuneration policy, Vietnam Airlines has earned a place in the top 20 best places to work in Vietnam according to Anphabe Career Network and Intage’s market research.
Vietnam Airlines continued to mark its strong growth through a series of important events. The signing agreement on the Global Cuisine Ambassador with Vietnamese-Australian Chef Luke Nguyen for 2018-2020 will promote the cuisine of the national flag carrier and the nation across the world. The 15th anniversary of the direct route linking Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City and Paris (France), the contract signing of aircraft engine maintenance with Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance as well as the reception of the 11th A350 aircraft in the framework of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France have affirmed the airline’s capacity to master modern technology and its important role in all cooperation aspects of politics, economy and culture between the two countries as well as the two continents.
In the second quarter of 2018, Vietnam Airlines will continue to ensure 4-star service quality throughout peak summer period and Liberation Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1) and take delivery of the 12th A350. Vietnam Airlines will hold the annual meeting of 2018 to issue more shares to existing shareholders and sell right to buy shares of State shareholders.
