Vietnam Airlines and Aeroflot begin codesharing on both domestic and international routes

Hanoi 11 June 2019 –Vietnam Airlines and Aeroflot has started codesharing on both domestic and international routes in Vietnam and Russia to offer customers enhanced connectivity and seamless connections between several domestic destinations in Russia and Vietnam, as well as promoting stronger commercial ties between the two countries.

Flights operated by Vietnam Airlines include the route of Hanoi - Moscow (Sheremetyevo), Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang as well as Ho Chi Minh City- Phu Quoc, Nha Trang. At the same time, flights operated by Aeroflot include the route of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Moscow (Sheremetyevo), Moscow (Sheremetyevo) - St Petersburg, Ufa and Krasnodar.

The code share agreement comes after the signing of a Memorandum between the two flag carriers in 2018, and Vietnam Airlines’ announcement it will move operations to Sheremetyevo Airport in July this year. The decision was driven by excellent transfer services, speed and flexibility at the fastest growing Russian airport and its status as the main hub for Skyteam member airlines.

Le Hong Ha, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines said: “The commencement of our partnership with Aeroflot allows us to unleash the combined power of our networks and boost our presence in the region. It offers travelers greater choice and flexibility when planning their trips. We are thrilled to welcome more passengers from Russia onboard Vietnam Airlines flights to experience the 4-star service quality and explore the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations.”

Vietnam Airlines offers three direct Moscow – Hanoi flights per week, operated on state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Aeroflot operates nine flights per week on routes between Moscow and Vietnam with a daily flight to Hanoi and a twice-weekly service to Ho Chi Minh City.

Twenty-five years since its first flight, the Vietnamese carrier has transported more than 1.6 million passengers between Vietnam and Russia. In 2018, Russia was ranked as the sixth largest source of international visitors to Vietnam with the number of arrivals predicted to increase to 1 million by 2020.
