In a statement on Thursday, the low-cost airline Thai AirAsia confirmed it will purchase seven new aircraft this year bringing its fleet up to 63 aircraft. Last year it purchased five new aircraft.

Currently, Thai AirAsia benefits from the ever-increasing numbers of Chinese passengers flying to Thailand. However, as part of a revenue growth strategy, the airline needs to diversify and this year will increase its flights to India and to the ASEAN region.

Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO, said that last year Thai AirAsia added 16 new routes both domestically and inter-regionally.

Thai AirAsia’s target for 2018 is 23.2 million passengers with a load factor of 87%.
