Taron Avia suspends its winter schedule in Armenia
The Armenian carrier, Taron Avia, with its two bases at Gyumri and Yerevan, operates four Boeing 737-500 aircraft between Armenia and Russia. Originally registered as a charter and cargo operation, the airline has recently instigated regular scheduled passenger operations. In fact, the airline began its first scheduled passenger service between Yerevan and Moscow in November last year intending to run the service until March 24th this year.
However, the CEO of Taron Avia, Garnik Papikyan, has just announced that the airline has suspended all scheduled passenger flights from Gyumri effective January 1st and all scheduled passenger flights from Yerevan effective January 14th. The reason given was insufficient passengers during the winter.
Papikyan said scheduled passenger services will be reinstated later in the year as the weather improves and passenger demand increases. However he could give any dates.
Meanwhile, Taron Avia is still running its normal charter and cargo operations.
