Surcar Airlines will fly in the Canary Islands with seaplanes
The newly incorporated company has already made its first test flights on the ports of Tenerife, Las Palmas and La Palma.
Next Autumn, regular routes will start connecting the islands´capital cities within 30 minutes.
Sixty five years ago there was a regular route between Southampton and Las Palmas port in Gran Canaria, and since then, seaplanes with passengers have not been back to the Canary Islands or to mainland Spain, until last week, when Surcar Airlines and Nordic Seaplanes made their debut with test flights to the main ports in Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria.
Founded by Canarian investors and Nordic Seaplanes (the only seaplane airline with regular flights in Europe), Surcar emerges as a means to improve social cohesion and connectivity between the islands, as it operates in other cities such as Copenhaguen, Seattle or Vancouver, where seaplanes have been operating regularly for the past 30 years.
As from next Autumn, flights will connect the city centers of Tenerife, La Palma and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in just 30 minutes, avoiding passenger transfers to the airports and waiting time in security controls and flight boarding, using DHC-6 Twin Otter seaplanes for 16 passengers.
