BERLIN/GREVEN – 15 February 2018 – The independent German airline Germania is responding to the steadily increasing demand at Münster/Osnabrück International Airport (FMO) and will again base an Airbus A321 in the Münsterland region this summer. The aircraft has a capacity of 210 seats and will replace one of the two previously planned A319s with 150 seats each. In addition, the airline has concluded its schedule for the 2018/19 winter season and will continue to station two aircraft at FMO during the winter months.

“Locations away from the major hubs have traditionally been very important for us”, said Claus Altenburg, Sales Director at Germania, during a press event at the airport. “FMO has been an integral part of our route network since 2015 and our services there are enjoying ever-increasing popularity. We’ll therefore use larger aircraft in the summer and operate more flights to more destinations in the winter, using two planes instead of one.

30,000 additional seats in summer 2018
“Tour operators and travel agents have unanimously reported that there is currently a significant increase in demand for flights from FMO. We’re therefore delighted that Germania has been the first to respond and will increase its capacity by 30,000 seats shortly before the start of the summer season,” said airport CEO Prof Dr Rainer Schwarz. “The two aircraft continuously based here will permanently sustain the strategic partnership between Germania and FMO and offer future prospects.”

This summer, Germania will fly from Münster/Osnabrück International Airport to a total of 16 destinations, two of which are entirely new, namely Istanbul and Thessaloniki. From the beginning of May, there will be three weekly flights to the Turkish city and two flights a week to Thessaloniki from mid-June. The Airbus A321 that is now based at FMO will be used on the most popular routes, such as those to Fuerteventura and Crete.

Doubling of seat capacity in winter 2018/19
In its next winter schedule from November 2018, Germania will for the first time station two aircraft at Münster/Osnabrück Airport during the winter, almost doubling the number of seats available from FMO in winter.

Germania’s green and white aircraft will then serve 12 destinations during the winter. The Portuguese island of Madeira will be a new destination from mid-December. Germania is also reinforcing its status as the major tourist airline at FMO with its first-ever all-year-round service to Palma de Mallorca and Antalya, as well as more flights to Tenerife during the winter months.
