STP Airways Oblivious To Sao Tome And Principe Transport Minister's Agenda
The Portuguese company, euroAtlantic airways (EAA) has again over the past week been surprised by statements by the Minister of Infrastructure, Public Works and Natural Resources of the government of Sao Tome and Principe, Osvaldo Abreu, broadcasted by various news agencies and media. EAA, the largest shareholder and manager of STP AIRWAYS, the São Toméan national company, clarifies to the public opinion and to the markets that it is totally alien to Minister Osvaldo Abreu's statements and agenda, made public following a State visit by the President of the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe to Equatorial Guinea where, as the Government portal states, “The Government of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe has signed with the Government of Equatorial Guinea a Memorandum that will allow the airline of the latter, Ceiba Intercontinental, to provide the air link between Sao Tome and Principe and Portugal”.
EuroAtlantic airways clarifies that the said Memorandum signed in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, by the (Non-Executive) President of STP AIRWAYS, António Aguiar, and reported in the news, “CEIBA will place aircrafts operated by White (Portugal) at the service of the São Toméan national airline” has no legal value. EAA clarifies that this matter was not taken to the General Meeting of shareholders by the manager appointed by the Government, and as such the Executive legal managers, officialised by the company's Articles of Association, were not aware of the matter.
EuroAtlantic airways claims that the existence of a Memorandum signed between its subsidiary STP AIRWAYS and the company Ceiba Intercontinental is false.EAA considers what has been officially reported to the national and international press as a very serious matter, and cannot accept that the Government of Sao Tome and Principe, unilaterally, and without consulting the largest shareholder, investor under the international law, and creditor of its national company, has signed a “Memorandum” on behalf of STP AIRWAYS. EAA, in the face of the enormous damage that this speculative news is causing to the tour operators and the markets in general, particularly to the final consumers, will not fail to claim a large indemnifying compensation before the International Courts, considering the prestige of its brand, as well as that of the STP AIRWAYS brand, that has been garnered over the past eleven years with the effort and commitment of its professionals.
