The European Commission has adopted an amending act aimed at modifying certain aspects of its decision of 4 May 2020 ( SA.57082 ) which approved a French aid measure amounting to 7 billion euros in favor of Air France. This aid measure, authorized under the temporary frameworkof state aid and consisting of a state guarantee for loans and a shareholder loan to Air France, aimed to provide the company with urgent cash support in the context of the coronavirus pandemic . The changes made today aim to include additional elements in the initial decision in order to conclude that Air France is indeed the only beneficiary of the French aid measure. The Commission considers that these changes are justified in view of the General Court ruling of 19 May 2021 which annulled the Commission decision approving a Dutch aid measure in favor of KLM ( SA.57116) for insufficient reasons as regards the assessment of the beneficiary of the aid. The changes made to the original decision do not change the Commission's conclusion that the measure is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy of a Member State, in accordance with Article 107 (3) , point b), of the TFEU and under the conditions set out in the temporary framework. Further information will be available on the website of the Directorate-General for Competition , in the public register of competition cases, under number SA.57082, as soon as the confidentiality issues have been resolved.
