NEW YORK, November 2, 2018 – Today, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will launch nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Singapore, the company’s third U.S. nonstop flight announcement in the past three weeks. SIA will use Airbus A350-900ULR (ultra-long-range) aircraft on the 8,763-mile route with a scheduled flight duration of 17 hours and 50 minutes, making it one of the world’s longest nonstop journeys (see SIA LAX flight schedule below). SIA was launch customer for this aircraft type when it debuted on the record-breaking “world’s longest flight” (New York to Singapore) last month.

A Focus on U.S. Market Growth: New Flights From EWR, LAX, SFO, SEA

The new LAX-SIN service is the latest step in the largest expansion in the airline’s U.S. history. The carrier will deploy new, more fuel-efficient aircraft to enable cost-effective, long-haul and ultra-long-haul travel, which began with new nonstop operations from the U.S. to Singapore in October 2016 from San Francisco. The airline has since added nonstop flights from New York (EWR-SIN began October 12, 2018) and announced Seattle-to-Singapore nonstops Wednesday evening (PT), slated to begin in September 2019. Three additional weekly SFO-SIN nonstop flights will commence from 28 November, 2018. For high-resolution images and b-roll of the SIA A350-900ULR aircraft, click here.

Flight SQ37 from Los Angeles to Singapore begins today and will feature a two-class layout, with 94 Premium Economy Class seats, as well as 67 Business Class seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, providing direct aisle access for each passenger. The route will initially be served three times per week, departing Los Angeles on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Daily operations will commence from November 9, 2018 after an additional A350-900ULR aircraft joins the fleet. From December 7, 2018, a further three services per week will be added as SQ35, expanding the total number of nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Singapore to 10 times per week.

A Wellness-Oriented Inflight Experience

Building on 10 years’ experience operating record-breaking nonstop services, SIA’s new LAX-SIN flight includes a balance of technology and passenger comfort innovations, all designed to provide passengers an enhanced travel experience. Technology improvements over previous ultra-long-haul aircraft operated by SIA include advanced air filtration with cabin air replaced every two minutes, cabin pressurization to a lower altitude (6,000 feet instead of 8,000), 16 million LED-based lighting combinations allowing flight attendants to simulate sunrise, sunset and other time periods to reduce the symptoms of jet lag. The aircraft also feature higher ceilings and larger windows to create a more spacious interior.

SIA has also announced a partnership with Canyon Ranch, a leading wellness brand, introducing a series of sleep, exercise and dining strategies for enhanced well-being during long flights. Several new Canyon Ranch meals designed specifically for SIA ultra-long-haul services will be offered on today’s flight.
