S7 Group has decided to merge Globus and Siberia airlines. As a result, Globus will cease operations following a decision of the sole shareholder of Siberia Airlines JSC.
The two carriers were first merged in 2020 by the holding company, then controlled by Tatyana Fileva. Globus, a charter unit of S7 that started operations in 2008, was unprofitable and a merger was then activated as a result.
In summer 2021, S7 decided to use the AOC of Globus to create a LCC, Citrus, however US sanctions ultimately hampered the launch of the new unit and it failed. Citrus was expected to begin flying in summer 2022, with plans to reach up to 24 A320neos by 2024.
