The S7 Group airlines have reviewed the results of their operating activities for 2017. Over the last year, the airlines carried 14,252,855 passengers, which is 8.4% more than in 2016.

S7 Airlines carried 10,454,311 passengers on domestic flights, which is an 8.3% increase over 2016. The growth on international destinations amounted to 8.7%. In 2017, the airlines carried 3,798,544 passengers on its international flights.

“In 2017, the number of flights carried out by S7 Airlines exceeded 100,000 and increased by 8.7%. We consider it to be an excellent result. Last year S7 Airlines was the first among Russian airlines to get modern Airbus A320neo and Embraer 170 aircraft in its fleet, which allowed us to offer our passengers new travel directions. In particular, we were actively developing the programme of regional carriages launching new scheduled flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk,” says Igor Veretennikov, the Commerce Director of S7 Group.

In 2017, S7 Airlines received four modern Airbus A320neo aircraft with the newest powerful engines, which ensure their high efficiency, in its fleet. On average, the fuel consumption is reduced up to 20%, depending on the route. Airbus A320neo aircraft have a longer flight range, which allows the airline to open new flights, such as from Moscow to Tenerife, which will be operated starting April 2018.

Thirteen modern Embraer 170 aircraft, designed to carry 78 passengers in a spacious and comfortable economy class cabin, were also added to the S7 Airlines air fleet.

New international flights were added to the route network of S7 Airlines. For the first time, passengers were able to take direct flights from Moscow to Vienna, Pisa, Rome, Catania and the Greek island of Kos, from Novosibirsk to Tbilisi and Karaganda and from Vladivostok to Osaka. S7 Airlines was constantly expanding the geography of flights from St. Petersburg to Western Europe: during the last year the airline launched direct scheduled flights to Berlin, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Turin, Verona and Lyon.

S7 Airlines launched more than 20 new scheduled flights as a part of the development of the interregional air carriages programme. They include flights from Moscow to Petrozavodsk, Lipetsk and Bryansk, from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad, Kaluga and Yaroslavl, from Novosibirsk to Omsk, Perm, Abakan, Gorno-Altaisk, Chelyabinsk and other cities.

In summer 2017, S7 Airlines and Alfa-Bank launched an innovative blockchain platform based on the Ethereum protocol and made the world’s first transaction to purchase a ticket using an open blockchain API with the bank. The implementation of the platform opened opportunities for significant optimisation of business processes, reducing the speed of settlements between the airline and its partners from 14 days to 23 seconds.

Last year, S7 Airlines offered passengers new services that would reduce the time spent at the airport before departure making the trip more comfortable. S7 Airlines became the first Russian airline, which offered its passengers the opportunity to check-in baggage for the flight on the website themselves and then to monitor its processing for departure using the mobile application.

Besides, additional employees of the airline, equipped with a mobile check-in device, which allows to check-in passengers for a flight, book ancillary services and print a boarding pass, started working in the flight check-in area for S7 Airlines own flights at Domodedovo and Tolmachevo airports.
