Royal Jordanian may acquire a stake in an existing LCC or take over one in the medium term, according to the CEO, Stefan Pichler. Any such action would take place after the carrier completes its current turnaround plan, which focuses on sustainable profitability, new routes, fleet simplification, and growth.
The carrier may also seek a strategic partner by 2025, altough no such talks are currently in progress.
Meanwhile, RJ plans to issue a narrowbody tender to all major OEMs soon. Also, despite cancelling its remaining and final B787 on order -- citing it can not operate the aircraft profitably -- the airline would like a larger aircraft such as the B787-9 for use in the high season.
The fleet strategy will be decided by end of 1H 2018, with plans to move to a single narrowbody fleet.
