Regional Jet expands its fleet
The Estonian airline Regional Jet was created in 2015 and commenced operations in 2017 with six Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft based at Tallinn. Its business model is providing wet lease services to other companies. The fleet was rapidly expanded to sixteen aircraft comprising eleven CRJ900 and five ATR72. The airline also has an ERJ145 on wet lease.
Now Regional Jet is poised to acquire two more aircraft which should be operational by this summer.
The airline is a 51%-49% joint venture between Nordica (the state-owned national airline of Estonia) and LOT Polish Airlines (the state-owned national airline of Poland). Nordica will purchase the two new aircraft, one CRJ900 and one ATR72, on behalf of Regional Jet, according to Toomas Uibo, Nordica’s Director of Marketing.
Uibo reported that the two new aircraft and their crews will be leased to Regional Jet to support three new routes from Groningen Airport and to provide back up in Estonia. The airline already operates up to seven aircraft from Tallinn Airport.
