powdair has announced the addition of two new year-round routes to its brand new flight programme launching in December this year. The addition of a twice-daily route to London City Airport and a three-times per day route to Zürich Airport - operated on behalf of powdair by Adria Airways Switzerland - further reinforces powdair’s ambition to be the only scheduled airline flying 7 days a week to the UK, Switzerland and Belgium from the previously un-served Sion Airport in the Valais region of Switzerland.
This brings the total amount of airports in powdair’s schedule from this winter to eight - London Luton, London Southend, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester, Antwerp and now London City and Zürich.
The double daily flight schedule into London City Airport will mean a convenient route directly into the Swiss Alps for workers and residents based in central London. The Zürich route services the demand from international travellers who can travel to their Alpine destination quickly. Both routes are planned as permanent, year-round scheduled services and are aimed at catering for both the business and leisure traveller.
Head of Commercial for powdair, Zoë Ombler, said: “We always had our sights set on London City Airport knowing that the concentration of winter sports enthusiasts in that area looking for a convenient way to reach the Alps was something we couldn’t ignore. We’ve had incredible demand since we first launched for a direct service to London City and we’re really excited to be able to offer it to our customers during our first operating season. Equally important for us was the chance to cater for Swiss visitors to the Valais and for Valaisans to be able to easily reach Zürich for business and international connections. Our three times a day service to Zürich will make travel between the Alps and one of the biggest business centres in Switzerland far easier and quicker and we hope will prove an immensely popular year-round addition to our programme.”
Christian Schneider, the Chief Commercial Officer of Adria Airways Switzerland, added: “We are very pleased to be the partner for powdair on their new routes from Sion to London City as well as Zürich. As a highly experienced Swiss regional carrier we are delighted to start the cooperation and to see our new brand Adria Airways Switzerland in partnership with powdair.”
Pierre-André Gremaud, Director of Verbier Promotion, said: “Adding the London City and Zürich Airport to powdair’s flight program is fantastic news for Verbier as it opens up great potential and makes the journey for many of our customers faster and even more convenient. Moreover, connecting flights from Zürich to Sion are a real plus for developing long haul tourism, as they may shorten the journeys considerably - also thanks to the powdair transfers that connect directly into Verbier from Sion airport.
