"Portugal" is in the air today, TAP's new aircraft, which has received an emblematic "retro" livery, presents itself to the portuguese peolple in Lisbon and Porto.
It’s an Airbus A330-300, that is a tribute to Portugal and the Portuguese people, and it is going to promote the country, within national and international borders.
TAP’s first aircraft to receive a “retro” livery takes off this Monday and it will have everyone looking to the skies.
The Airbus A330-300 has been named “Portugal”, it is TAP’s tribute to its great history, which is also the history of the country. In the past and in the present, now for 72 years, TAP travels the skies in the name of Portugal and the Portuguese.
The livery of the new “Portugal” aircraft is part of a series of campaigns programed by the airline to celebrate the historical and inseparable connection between TAP, Portugal and its people.
It will operate long haul commercial flights, this way promoting Portugal across international borders, to North and South America, as well as Africa. “Portugal” is presented this Monday, the 26th, when it will perform a national exhibition flight, before it officially begins its operation.
The itinerary of this first flight has been carefully designed to show the Portuguese and the world this true ambassador of Portugal, ensuring that it will pass through the most iconic sites of Lisbon and Porto.
Whomever flew in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s will be moved when remembering these colors. Those who have not flown, will also be touched. It is an icon and it is impossible to remain indifferent. TAP wants everyone to see “Portugal” flying.
All you have to do is look to the skies on Monday morning.
The itinerary:
“Portugal” takes off from Lisbon at 9:00, flying towards Porto. There, it will fly over Foz and make its first low swoop over Sá Carneiro airport’s runway, around 10:00.Upon its return to Lisbon, it will fly over Cascais, the 25th of April Bridge and, around 11:30, it will fly low over the runway, before landing at Humberto Delgado airport at 12:00.
The aircraft:
“Portugal” is one of three Airbus A330-300 aircrafts that TAP receives this summer, which will contribute to the capacity expansion of the airline as a result of the opening of new routes, namely the long-haul route to Canada (Toronto), which was inaugurated on the 10th of June.
The A330 CS-TOV, has a capacity to transport 285 passengers and it exhibits the corporate image that TAP had between the 50’s and 70’s. In true form, it recreates the ‘Transportes Aéreos Portugueses’ typography and the airline’s logo of that time, which was commonly known as “Passarola”.
This is the second TAP aircraft that has received the name of the country. The first one to be called “Portugal” was a Boeing 747-200, delivered to TAP in February of 1972.
The classic image chosen for this “retro” aircraft, the most emblematic historical corporate identity of the airline, was first displayed on a Lockheed Super Constellation aircraft, received by TAP in July of 1955, and the last one was on the Boeing 727-200.
Now, a modern Airbus A330-300 will bear these “colors”. The meaning that they carry, that still remains the same.
We call it: Portugal.
