Norwegian’s Nonstop Service from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona Takes Off

FORT LAUDERDALE (AUGUST 23, 2017)– Norwegian, the World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline for the third consecutive year and Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the fifth consecutive year, last night launched its first flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Barcelona-El Prat Airport. Flights will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays, with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Later this month, Norwegian will open its first Boeing 787 pilot base in the United States in Fort Lauderdale, with an initial 36 American pilots joining the airline’s U.S.-based crew. Norwegian’s workforce in the United States now includes three pilot bases and four cabin crew bases, totaling more than 600 U.S.-based employees.

“We are excited to this month not only open another route to/from Fort Lauderdale, but also open our very first U.S. Dreamliner pilot base at the airport. Norwegian is creating more American jobs than any other foreign airline. In addition to welcoming more employees, we continue to bring in thousands of more tourists to South Florida, stimulating the local economy,” said Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer.

Norwegian now operates seven routes out of Fort Lauderdale to Europe (Barcelona, Copenhagen, Guadeloupe, London, Oslo, Paris and Stockholm), with its eighth, to Martinique in the French Caribbean launching on October 30. With six nonstop routes to Europe, Norwegian now offers more European routes out of South Florida than any other airline.

All fares are now available for sale on Norwegian’s website. Additionally, the website’s low fare calendar displays the lowest available fares to all of Norwegian’s destinations.

Norwegian now offers 58 transatlantic routes from 15 U.S. airports to Denmark, France, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, as well six routes to the French Caribbean, totaling 64 routes out of the United States. Upcoming launches from the U.S. include: Denver to London (September 16, 2017); Seattle to London (September 17); Providence to Guadeloupe (October 29); Providence to Martinique (October 30); Fort Lauderdale to Martinique (October 30); New York/Newark to Rome (November 9); Los Angeles to Rome (November 11); Oakland/San Francisco to Rome (February 6, 2018); New York/Newark to Paris (February 28); Chicago to London (March 25); Austin to London (Mach 27); Denver to Paris (April 9); Oakland/San Francisco to Paris (April 10), and Boston to Paris (May 2).
