Nordica to introduce larger aircraft on certain routes during Estonian EU presidency
The number of foreign visitors flying in to Estonia on a variety of Nordica routes is set to grow in September and October in connection with the country’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. As such, Estonia’s national airline will be utilising larger aircraft and increasing the number of seats by as much as 80% on a temporary basis. The airline will respond to the growth in demand by operating a 162-seater Boeing 737-400 aircraft from the start of September. The aircraft and accompanying crew will be leased from Nordica’s partner airline LOT and later on 737-300 from Bul Air. These aircrafts will primarily serve the Tallinn-Brussels route. This larger aircraft will bring with it 80% growth in the number of available seats. In addition to the Boeing, Nordica will also start flying between larger hubs with a 100-seater Fokker 100 on a temporary basis. This aircraft is being leased from the airline Carpatair.
Toomas Uibo, Nordica’s Director of Marketing and Communication, says that in working with its partners Nordica has found effective ways of offering more seats on a number of routes. “Since every type of aircraft demands its own special preparations of both the cockpit and cabin crews, it makes sense to respond to a sudden and short-term increase in demand by outsourcing an all-in-one service,” he explained. Nordica is constantly monitoring seat occupancy rates during the presidency so as to be able to respond promptly to changes in demand.
