Nordic Aviation Capital, the world’s largest regional aircraft lessor, today announced the appointment of Gareth Halpin as Chief Funding Officer, effective 6 April 2020. Gareth will be based out of NAC’s newly opened Headquarters in Limerick and will report to the company’s CEO, Søren M. Overgaard.

Gareth has over 25 years of experience in the aviation and financial services industry. Most recently, he was Group Treasurer and Head of Capital Markets at Avolon. In this role, Gareth led the Capital Markets and Treasury teams and was responsible for raising more than USD25 billion in debt in a variety of banking and public markets globally, including more than USD10 billion of acquisition finance for the CIT acquisition.

Prior to Avolon, Gareth served in several senior executive roles in the financial services and aircraft leasing sector, as Deputy Head / Senior Manager of the Debt Restructuring division in IBRC bank and as Director of Marketing and Risk Management in Pembroke Group (now Standard Chartered Aviation Finance). He started his career with KPMG in the financial services sector.

Gareth has a Bachelor of Business Studies from Trinity College Dublin and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland (ACA).

Furthermore, Morten Mikkelsen will assume the position of Chief Financial Officer with immediate effect. Morten will continue to be based in the Billund office and will report to the company’s CEO, Søren M. Overgaard.

Since joining NAC in 2017, Morten has played a pivotal role in further strengthening and leading the development of NAC’s global finance function and executing strategic initiatives. Most recently, Morten was Senior Vice President of Group Finance in NAC.

Morten has a wealth of experience from his 19 years tenure at the AP Moller Maersk Group. Specifically, he was CFO in APM Terminals for five years. Prior to this, he was Director of Finance for APM Terminals and Treasurer for the North American activities of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. Morten has a Master’s in Finance and Accounting from Aarhus University.
