Despite air fares increasing up to 30% following the demise of Air Berlin, Lufthansa will be spared from any wrongdoing by Germany's Federal Cartel Office, who do not see the ticket price increase since autumn 2017 as an abuse.

By February 2018, air fares fell back down as easyJet increased its presence in the German market. Despite the drop, regulators will continue to monitor the air fare prices.

The Federal Cartel Office also said, "The use of an algorithm for pricing does not relieve a company of course from his responsibility," and "consistent merger control", which led to easyJet's arrival, will continue.
