"Today we had a pleasure to welcome the first Indian guests aboard our Dreamliner operating between Delhi and Warsaw. LOT not only provides the shortest and most convenient way of travel to Warsaw but also developed a perfect gateway to all passengers travelling from the Delhi catchment area to Europe. LOT is the leading legacy carrier in Central and Eastern Europe - the fastest growing region of the continent. There is a huge potential of air travels - almost 9.5M passengerstravelled between India and Europe and 3.3M between Delhi and Europe during the last 12 months. Our convenient schedule, including an overnight eastbound flight, a comfortable on-board product and seamless connectivity via Warsaw, will certainly increase the flow of business and leisure travellers coming to and from India,” says Rafał Milczarski, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines.
LOT will be the first carrier from Central and Eastern Europe to connect India with so many European cities, connecting the home town airports of Star Alliance member carriers: LOT Polish Airlines and Air India. The new route launch features excellent onward connectivity via Warsaw, starting from just 40 minutes transit time for example to London City Airport, Paris, Brussels, Krakow, Geneva, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Hanover, Oslo, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Billund, Prague and Budapest.
For passengers travelling on the Warsaw-Delhi long-haul route, LOT Polish Airlines features Indian meals in all three cabins (LOT Business Class, LOT Premium Economy Class, LOT Economy Class), complimentary beverages including alcoholic drinks as well as inflight entertainment system including the latest Bollywood releases in Hindi. Furthermore, to provide the best possible onboard experience, there will always be a Hindi-speaking crew member on board.
Delhi was chosen not without reason as the next LOT destination in Asia. After Singapore, India is the second largest direct investment market in Asia for Polish businesses. For India, Poland is an important investment market i.e. in the IT sector and a gateway to all countries within the European Union. The new LOT flight is a key element in strengthening economic ties and developing business relations between the two countries. Poland is one of the best performing European economies, the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. Since its transformation in the early 1990s it is on the path of continuous and dynamic growth. Poland was the only European country that avoided recession during GFC. With a population of 38.5 million citizens, Poland is very well known for its hospitality, developed infrastructure, as well as safety and security.
“Opening direct flights always accelerates the potential in the tourism industry. Due to the new LOT flight to Delhi, many Poles will decide to visit India, even though they had no such plans before. I heartily encourage them to do so, since India is an amazing destination with its diversity, cultural heritage and outstanding cuisine. I am very happy that from now on LOT will be a carrier of choice for many Polish and other European tourists wanting to explore India”, says LOT’s CEO. On the other hand, we hope to see more Indian guests visiting the magnificent cities like Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk or Wroclaw” – adds Rafał Milczarski.
Launching a new flights to India opens up major development opportunities also for LOT Cargo sector. Conducting flights by the flagship aircraft Boeing 787-8 & 787-9 Dreamliner, with a capacity of 12,500 kg and 13,500 kg, respectively, will enable the implementation of both direct investments and allow to build strong economic and business ties between the entrepreneurs of both countries. In the coming years, according to forecasts the most frequently transported goods will be: pharmaceuticals (over 900 t), neutral goods from Warsaw (nearly 550 t) and the Middle East (440 t) as well as other countries from Central Europe (nearly 340 t). The Delhi airport is well connected to the largest airports in India, which will enable the expansion of products sent from Poland and the execution of orders to Poland.
LOT’s first regular flight from Warsaw to Delhi was operated in 1985 with a stopover in Tashkent. LOT introduced Boeing 767 on the route in the early 1990s. Today, after more than 30 years the Boeing 787 Dreamliner will cover the distance of 5,271 Kilometres in just 7 hours.
The new route, like all LOT Polish Airlines long-haul routes, will be operated exclusively by the world’s most modern wide-body aircraft – the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Each aircraft will feature three class of service – LOT Business Classwith seats which recline to the position of a flat bed and a galley akin to one at a top-class restaurant; LOT Premium Economy Class with larger personal space, comfortable seats with footrests, thigh support, cocktail tables and a rich menu, as well as LOT Economy Class with modern seats, personal in-flight entertainment screens and USB sockets, and fresh and diverse international and Indian meals and complimentary alcohol served aboard.
The Warsaw to Delhi route launch is part of the profitable growth strategy, which LOT Polish Airlines has been implementing since early 2016. As result over three years, LOT has become the fastest growing airline in Europe, doubled its fleet size and having launched over 70 new routes worldwide. By the end of 2019, additional B787 Dreamliner will join the fleet, increasing the total number of LOT wide-body aircraft to 15.
