LATAM Airlines Group reports that LATAM Airlines Argentina announced today the cessation of its operations, both passenger and cargo, for an indefinite period.
This news responds to the fact that, in the current conditions, aggravated by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and by the difficulty of building structural agreements with the actors of the local industry, it is not possible to visualize a viable and sustainable project over time.
“It is unfortunate but inevitable news. LATAM today must focus on transforming the group to adapt to post-COVID-19 aviation, ”said Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group. "Argentina has always been a fundamental country and will continue to be. The other subsidiaries of the LATAM group will continue connecting passengers from that country with Latin America and the world," added Alvo.
LATAM Airlines Argentina will stop flying to and from 12 domestic destinations while the subsidiary's four international destinations to the United States, Brazil, Chile and Peru will continue to be operated by the other subsidiaries of the group, once the restrictions imposed by the authorities in the framework of the health emergency. Likewise, the international cargo routes of the Argentine subsidiary will be served by the other subsidiaries of the LATAM group. It should be noted that LATAM Argentina is the only subsidiary of the group that will cease operations.
