Kenya Airways (KQ) issued a RFP to buy up to 10 B737 MAX to expand its network, however it will take two to three years to introduce the aircraft due to pilot training, according to Chief Operations Officer Jan de Vegt.
The expansion is part of the carrier's five-year strategy, which includes the launch of US flights in October 2018.
KQ also plans to retire its B737-300s and its final B777-200ER in 2018.
