Jetstar Asia: Redeployment of staff

Statement attributed to Bara Pasupathi, CEO, Jetstar Asia

“To support our dedicated and talented crew during the temporary suspension of our flights, we have been working with MOF, PSD and CAAS to find temporary job opportunities offered by the public agencies and the private sector institutions.

“To date, more than one-third of our crew have taken up roles with the Singapore Food Agency, National Environment Agency and Raffles Medical Group.

“Jetstar Asia’s crew’s reputation for providing the highest levels of customer service has meant that our people have been highly sought after when it comes to filling these roles. These new contract positions are critical roles to help Singapore prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

Background:

Government Support

We welcome the government’s wage support package and appreciate their ongoing support of the aviation industry during this very challenging time.
Jetstar Asia continues to have ongoing conversations with the Government, MOT, CAG and CAAS on the various forms of support accorded by governments in the region and the role of aviation in Singapore to jumpstart growth. In addition, our strong stakeholder relationship with Government agencies has meant we have been able to help a number of our Singaporean crew find new temporary positions during the suspension of Jetstar Asia’s operations. These contract positions are for between one to six months and are important roles to help Singapore prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Redeployment Roles

The Singapore Food Agency and National Environment Agency have offered our crew the role of Safe Distancing Ambassadors and SG Clean Ambassadors respectively. Safe Distancing Ambassadors will be deployed to coffeeshops and SG Clean Ambassadors to hawker centres, to advise patrons on safe distancing requirements, and the importance of practising good social norms and personal habits.

The Raffles Medical Group has offered our team members the role of Health Care Assistants at the airport to monitor and direct passengers who may need assistance.

Experienced Crew

Jetstar Asia’s reputation for providing the highest levels of customer service has meant that our people are highly sought after when it comes to filling these roles. Our crew are experienced at ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all members of the general public, and possess fantastic traits such as listening and empathy, making them excellent candidates for these temporary roles.

Temporary Roles

These contract positions are for a period of one to six months. This allows our crew the opportunity to work and support themselves, contribute to the community and also be ready to return to their full-time positions when we are ready to resume flying.
