JetSMART Airlines, the Indigo Partners-backed ULCC from Chile, intends to enter into negotiations to acquire 100% of the shares of the Colombian airline Viva Air, having confirmed that it has the resources, capacity and experience to negotiate and close an acquisition quickly.
“We believe that a transaction between JetSMART and Viva Air will allow the ultra-low-cost model to be maintained in Colombia. We have a long-term vision to expand in South America and we are in a position to continue investing in our growth.”, said Estuardo Ortíz, CEO of JetSMART.
JetSMART ensures that this option has the best conditions for the market, since the airlines do not have common routes in Colombia and both operate new fleets of A320neo.
The move comes as Viva suitor Avianca is facing regulatory scrutiny in its attempt to acquire the smaller Colombian airline.
