BERLIN/PRISTINA – 02 November 2018 – As of March 31, 2019, independent German airline Germania will station an Airbus A319 with 150 seats at the airport of the Pristina, the capital city of Kosovo. In cooperation with Air Prishtina, the airline will then further expand its existing local offer at the start of the summer season 2019 and, among others, open new connections from Pristina to Stuttgart, Hamburg and Hanover. The existing routes to and from Munich, Düsseldorf, Basel-Mulhouse, and Verona will continue to be offered.
Germania and Air Prishtina yesterday presented their plans for the coming year to the local media at a press conference. Present was also His Excellency Christian Heldt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Pristina, who commented on the plans of the two companies as follows: “With almost 300.000 passengers in 2017, Germania is the number one carrier operating at Pristina Airport. With the additional flights being operated by Germania from Pristina airport as base, I hope Germany will also soon be the number one destination and origin of passengers. I am proud and happy that a German carrier plays this important role and wants to soon be training and operating with Kosovar cabin staff and other personnel based here.”
Sieghard Jähn, Member of the Board of the Germania Group, praised the good cooperation with Air Prishtina: “The partnership between Germania and Air Prishtina is close and trustful. Both companies benefit greatly from the further expansion of our cooperation. The enormous importance of Air Prishtina here in the region is an important key for Germania to open up further markets.”
Germania and Air Prishtina have been working together since 2012 on routes between Germany and Kosovo. Leyla Ibrahimi, CEO of Air Prishtina, commented: “With the stationing of a machine in Pristina, Air Prishtina, as a specialist in this market, will be able to develop and expand its flights and operation further. It is the logical consequence of a long-standing and trusting cooperation based on flexibility and short decision-making processes.”
An important partner in the region is the Pristina International Airport. CEO Haldun Firat Köktürk looks forward to the deployment of the Germania aircraft: “On behalf of the entire team of Limak Kosovo International Airport, we are pleased to give a Germania machine a second home! This is an important step for Germania, our airport, and the Republic of Kosovo. The successful continuation of our cooperation with Germania ensures that our passengers will be able to choose from an ever-increasing number of destinations and that our passenger numbers will continue to increase as a result.”
Claus Altenburg, Director Sales at Germania, on the stationing of the Airbus A319 in Pristina: “for 2019, we are expecting a further increase in demand for flights from Kosovo, especially to Germany. With the stationing of an aircraft in Pristina, Germania and Air Prishtina are well prepared. This allows us to respond quickly to new developments at any time.”
It is planned to recruit flight attendants that Germania needs for the machine stationed in Pristina in the coming weeks and months in Kosovo. So not only travelers on the way to friends and relatives will benefit from the expansion, but also the local labor market.
