Guðni Ingólfsson has been appointed Managing Director of PLAY's Aviation Operations. Guðni takes over as managing director from Arnar Már Magnússon, one of the founders of PLAY. In addition to having extensive experience in aviation operations, Arnar is a pilot and he has decided to return to the pilot's seat and start flying full time. Arnar will, however, continue to handle aviation-related projects at the company.

Guðni has extensive experience in aviation operations and extensive management experience, but he was head of the crew department at WOW air from 2018 to 2019. Prior to that, Guðni worked for Icelandair for 22 years, most recently as head of the training department from 2015-2018. Prior to that, he held various management positions at Icelandair. Guðni joins PLAY from Rio Tinto in Iceland, where he has worked as a quality manager since 2019. Guðni has a master's degree in action research from the London School of Economics.

"It has been a real honor to be involved in building PLAY, ever since it was an idea and to see it become a reality in the form it is today. I am very grateful to have been able to work with all the great people at PLAY and I look forward to continuing that on another level within the company, but now on board the aircraft. I am proud of this milestone and especially of our achievements as a team where everyone has put a lot of effort into making PLAY the great company it has become. I think my purpose in bringing PLAY into the air is over and I'm now going to do what I enjoy most, which is to fly with our passengers in the spirit of adventure. From this summer I will be working as a training pilot for the company and I am very much looking forward to it.

"Arnar has been a key figure in the history of PLAY, as he was one of its founders and CEO when it was in its infancy. There, he led the group of employees in considerable headwinds, as COVID-19 disrupted the original plans and made the process longer and more difficult than had been planned. Since the company started its actual operations, Arnar has been a powerful manager and built up the aviation operations team so that the aviation operations have run like a well-oiled machine and the work ethic has been extremely good. I have a great understanding that the air calls Arnar as a pilot and I have great respect for his decision as we have discussed it for a long time.

The Aviation Operations Division is a very important unit within the company and it is a difficult task to hire a new manager. I am absolutely convinced that we have found a great leader in Guðni Ingólfsson. The flight operations team is strong, professional and ambitious and Guðni will continue to strengthen and strengthen it at the same time as PLAY's operations are growing rapidly. Guðni has extensive experience from aviation operations as well as in other areas of the economy, he is also well acquainted with the PLAY infrastructure and the projects that await him with us. I welcome him and look forward to working with him, "says Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY.
