Finnair further strengthens its position in Germany with over 280,000 additional seats for 2018
As part of its growth strategy, Finnair has increased its capacity to several existing destinations in Germany. As of March 26, 2018, Finnair is adding a fourth daily frequency between Helsinki and Berlin. Furthermore, additional capacity will also be added to the German capital for the upcoming winter season by flying the route with a larger aircraft. In total, Finnair will add over 145,000 seats between both cities from now until the end of the summer 2018 season.
Finnair is also adding capacity on many of its existing routes in Germany. In total, Finnair has increased its capacity to Germany by 24% for 2018. Finnair currently flies daily to five German destinations including Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. Last month, Finnair also announced that it will start flying daily to Stuttgart as of April 23, 2018, making it the sixth destination in Germany for Finnair. Finnair’s flights to Germany have had a strong demand from customers travelling to and from Asia, Russia, the United States and the Baltics.
“We are a growing airline and we are looking forward to expanding our already strong footprint in Germany, which is a strategic focus market for us at Finnair,” says Juha Järvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair. “We have also seen steady growth in demand for travel between Germany and Asia which is a great opportunity for us given our quick and efficient connecting hub at Helsinki Airport. In the past year alone, we have also seen strong double digit sales growth between Asia and Germany, with travel to and from Japan especially strong.”
Travel between Asia and Europe is an important and growing market segment for Finnair. Finnair flies to 19 destinations in Asia and is the largest European carrier flying to Japan, with routes to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. Finnair operates to seven gateways in Greater China, with 38 weekly flights during the summer 2018 season. Finnair flies non-stop to Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Xian. Finnair is also opening a new route to Nanjing on May 13, 2018.
Finnair is a member of the oneworld alliance and operates a joint business to Japan with British Airways, Iberia and Japan Airlines, in addition it is also part of a joint business over the Atlantic with American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia.
