100 additional jobs at DUS due to own technical operation
Düsseldorf, 21 December 2018 - Growth in Düsseldorf not only in the air, but also on the ground: Condor, the second-largest airline at Düsseldorf Airport, will maintain its Airbus fleet in Düsseldorf via its subsidiary Condor Technik GmbH in the future. The first check of an Airbus A320 is currently taking place in Hangar 7 in the eastern part of the airport. The tenancy agreement is fixed for 10 years and by summer 2019 around 80 mechanics and technical experts as well as around 20 logistics employees will be on site.
"We have recently increased the number of our stationed aircraft in Düsseldorf from four to nine and have been offering 14 additional destinations and a total of 35 destinations since last summer. This makes us the second-largest airline at Düsseldorf Airport. It is therefore a logical step for us to grow with our own maintenance operations so that we can also be represented on site in Düsseldorf. This growth will also create around 100 jobs at DUS," says Christian Schmitt, Managing Director & Accountable Manager Condor.
"The opening of a maintenance location in Düsseldorf is a strong commitment by Condor to our airport. With its own technical operations, the airline continues to expect growth at NRW's largest airport. We are very pleased with this decision, which once again reflects the high demand of the airlines at our location. At the same time, this step will create numerous new jobs. This development is therefore very good news for the region," said Thomas Schnalke, CEO of Düsseldorf Airport.
The rental area of the Condor maintenance hangar is part of Hangar 7 in the eastern part of the airport. The rental area comprises 7,400 square meters inside the hangar as well as storage space, offices and workshops in an adjacent extension. The hangar space offers space for three short- and medium-haul aircraft. In the future, all Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft used for Thomas Cook Group Airline aircraft registered in Germany will be serviced here. Anyone who would like to go on board as an aircraft mechanic or electronics technician in Düsseldorf or at the Frankfurt location at Condor will find all the information they need at www.condor.com/karriere.
Condor had grown strongly in Düsseldorf in the summer of 2018 with a large number of new destinations around the Mediterranean and will again be offering new destinations in the coming summer flight schedule: Cagliari and Naples in Italy and Kefalonia and Volos in Greece ideally complement the 32 existing destinations. In the current 2018/19 winter flight schedule, Condor is flying to Palma de Mallorca for the first time in eight years.
