“CommuteAir recognized a significant opportunity in the market for charter aircraft that bridge the gap between small regional jets and larger narrowbody aircraft,” said Captain David Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President of Flight Operations. “With its 76-seat capacity, the E170 offers a cost-effective and appropriately sized solution for various client needs.”
CommuteAir’s E170 features comfortable 2×2 leather seating, two flight attendants, and two lavatories, making it an ideal choice for college or high school sports teams, VIP travel, entertainment groups, casino or hotel charters, corporate shuttles, and more.
Rick Hoefling, CommuteAir President & CEO, emphasized, “The certification of our new E170 highlights the dedication and hard work of our team, reflecting our commitment to excellence and innovation. We are excited to introduce this exceptional flying experience and are eager to see the positive impact it will have on our operations.”
The 10-month E170 certification process involved a comprehensive five-phase journey, including:
- Submitting a letter of intent to the DOT and FAA to operate large aircraft.
- Filing a formal application with detailed certification plans
- Creating five new manuals and updating numerous existing manuals for the additional aircraft type
- Assisting the FAA with completion of Design Collection Tools (DCTs) to align manual references with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
- Developing flight planning capabilities for the new aircraft
- Establishing training programs for Flight Operations and Inflight teams
- Conducting in-house training for pilots, flight attendants, and mechanics
- Completing aircraft conformity and transitioning the aircraft to CommuteAir’s maintenance program
- Performing operations demonstrations, including Table-Top exercises, Mini-Evacuation drills, and Proving Flights
- Updating CommuteAir’s Operations Specifications (Op Specs) to include the new aircraft
