He has also been instrumental in the delivery of the world’s first A350 into commercial service and has managed large complex and rapidly expanding fleets in his previous roles, all of which will provide him with great experience as Air Italy takes on the next phase of its rapid expansion.”

“With the rapid and dynamic growth that Air Italy is currently undergoing, it is a very exciting time to join the airline, and I’m looking forward immensely to taking on this new challenge and helping them reach their ambitious goals,” said Captain Iliakis.

Captain Iliakis has been a professional pilot for more than 25 years and has held a series of varied and senior roles throughout his career culminating in being acting Chief Flight Operations Officer for Qatar Airways with its fleet of more than 200 aircraft.

Qualifying initially as a pilot in the United States, Captain Iliakis has flown both Boeing and Airbus aircraft throughout his career with roles including, Ground Instructor, Line Instructor, Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner, and Functional Test Pilot on several aircraft, including most recently on the world’s newest commercial passenger aircraft, the Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000.

Since 2005, Captain Iliakis has been flying with Qatar Airways initially as an A319/320/321 First Officer and more recently as an A330/A350 Captain.
Current Air Italy Chief Flight and Ground Operations Officer and Accountable Manager Captain Domenico Mazza will transition back to the line.

“We would like to thank Captain Mazza for his wholehearted commitment and dedication during his time in the role as CFGOO, particularly during the recent launch of Air Italy and the induction of our new fleet,” said Mr. Dimitrov. “His experience and support will continue to be invaluable in the business as we continue to grow and expand.”
