Gulf carrier Qatar Airways and The Boeing Company have scheduled an announcement for Friday, according to a spokeswoman from Qatar Airways cited by Reuters. The news follows just moments after AeroAnalysis submitted an article for publication linking the commercial as well as the defense order.
Qatar Airways likely to place wide body order
It is likely that Qatar Airways and Boeing will announce a deal for wide body jets on. It is rumored that the order would be a mix of the Boeing 777 Classic and the Boeing 787. Both aircraft types already have a place in the Qatar Airways fleet.
The deal would cover 30 aircraft with a list price of at least $7B. The dealcan be closely related to the White House approving the sale of fighter jets to Qatar, which was previously opposed by Israel, valued at $3B.
The Boeing 777 could use some order inflow as Boeing is facing a production gap as it transitions from the Boeing 777 to the Boeing 777X.
The state-owned airline is also eyeballing a possible order for the Boeing 737 MAX and/or Boeing 737–800, but AeroAnalysis is not expecting any order announcement for narrow body aircraft on Friday.
