Azorra is pleased to announce that David Neeleman has been appointed to its board of directors.
The founder of four successful airline start-ups (Azul, JetBlue, WestJet and Morris Air), as well as a new airline – Breeze Airways – launched in May 2021, Mr. Neeleman brings a unique and valuable airline perspective to Azorra. His entrepreneurial expertise in developing airlines and aviation-related ventures will no doubt help to guide Azorra’s ambitious growth plans in the coming years.
“We are very delighted to welcome David to our board. He has had enormous success identifying new opportunities and improving the customers’ airline experience. At Azorra, we’re similarly focused on our airline customers. What better way to further develop our customer-first focus than by working with David, who truly understands both airlines and customer service,” said John Evans, Azorra’s CEO.
“I have known and worked with John Evans for more than 30 years and am excited to join Azorra’s Board and to help grow Azorra into a world class leasing platform,” said David Neeleman.
David Neeleman is currently the CEO of Breeze Airways, which he founded in 2018, and Chairman of the Board of Azul, which he founded in 2008. Mr. Neeleman’s career in the airline industry began in 1984 when he co-founded Morris Air. At Morris Air, he implemented the industry’s first electronic ticketing system and pioneered a home reservationist system. Mr. Neeleman sold Morris Air and spun off the electronic ticketing business to Open Skies, which was acquired by Hewlett Packard in 1999. Mr. Neeleman also co-founded WestJet Airlines and served as a member of its board of directors from 1996 to 1999. Mr. Neeleman founded JetBlue and held the position of Chief Executive Officer from 1998 to 2007 and Chairman of the Board from 2002 to 2008.
