40 percent of the offer to Italy in March and April will be cancelled
Flights to Beijing and Shanghai suspended until April 24
Flights to Tehran suspended until April 30
Due to the Coronavirus, Austrian Airlines is experiencing a sharp drop in demand within Europe and above all to Italy. For this reason, 40 percent of the offer to Italy in March and April will be cancelled. This contains frequency reductions on the routes from Vienna to Milan, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples. It was also decided that flights to China will be suspended until April 24, 2020. This affects the destinations Beijing and Shanghai. Flights to Tehran will be suspended until April 30. Most recently, the flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Tehran had been cancelled until March 28. Austrian Airlines will continue to monitor the respective developments and is in contact with the responsible authorities.
"The rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus in Europe and the associated economic effects are hitting the tourism industry and us airlines particularly hard. All over the world, companies are cancelling business trips, placing travel bans on their staff or imposing short-time working on their employees. We have to react to the drop in demand by reducing routes and cannot rule out further measures at this time," says CCO Andreas Otto.
Passengers whose flights have been cancelled can of course rebook free of charge or receive a refund on request. Austrian Airlines asks all passengers who have booked an Italy connection in the affected period to check the status of their flight on austrian.comunder “My Bookings”. Passengers who provided their telephone number or e-mail address during the booking procedure as well as members of the frequent flyer program Miles & More will be informed automatically via SMS or e-mail of flight changes.
