Delta: ATL operations back to normal, baggage delivery ongoing

Delta’s normal operations resumed Tuesday in Atlanta, with the airline's largest hub seeing an on-time arrival rate of more than 90 percent the second day after a major power outage at the airport Sunday caused 1,400 flight cancellations Sunday and Monday. All affected customers have been reaccommodated on alternate flights.

While Delta’s operations are back to normal, the airline continues to make progress in reuniting customers affected by the outage with their checked luggage. Baggage services were disabled by the power failure. As of Tuesday afternoon, just 1 percent of bags that needed to be transferred to customers outside of Atlanta remained, and approximately 800 local bags were left to be delivered to their Atlanta-based owners.

Delta has established a dedicated phone line to help customers affected by the power outage to retrieve their checked bags. The airline is asking customers to call the baggage number at 888-977-1005 to arrange for delivery rather than going to an airport baggage service office.

With the busy holiday travel season under way, customers traveling through Atlanta or who were affected by the outage should note: Delta customers flying to, from or though Atlanta can make a one-time change to their travel plans. Waiver details.
