airBaltic Launches Seasonal Base in Gran Canaria
Today, on December 1, 2023, the Latvian national airline airBaltic launched its seasonal base in Gran Canaria, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. During this winter, airBaltic will base two of its Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Gran Canaria airport (LPA), serving a total of 10 direct routes.
Martin Gauss, President and CEO at airBaltic: “We at airBaltic are glad to mark the launch of our seasonal base in Gran Canaria. As we station two aircraft in Gran Canaria, we will connect this wonderful island with destinations in Northern Europe. This is the first seasonal base of airBaltic, as well as the first base outside of the Baltics and Finland. By tapping into the strong and growing demand during the winter months between Northern Europe and the Canary Islands, we will also increase our aircraft utilization.”
The seasonal offer compliments airBaltic current services to the Canary Islands as the airline continues to operate direct flights to Tenerife from its four main bases – Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere.

In addition to direct flights between Riga and Gran Canaria, which were launched last year, airBaltic will now connect the airport to nine new destinations in Northern Europe.
The new routes will be operated by Airbus A220-300 aircraft – one of the most efficient commercial aircraft in the skies. The A220-300 offers an excellent flying experience with such benefits for passengers as wider seats, larger windows, more hand luggage space in the cabin, improved lavatories, delivering better overall performance, fuel efficiency, and convenience for both passengers and the staff.
airBaltic operates more than 100 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere, offering connections to a wide range of destinations in the airline's route network in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region.
