Air Century CEO Omar Shahine Lama faults the Dominican Republic government for the lack of growth opportunities from the island nation, due to limited support in commercial aviation from the state.
He is calling for preferential fuel prices, and lower taxes than foreign airlines, which will translate into more jobs and contributions to the state.
The criticism comes on the back of the inaugural flight by Air Century from Santo Domingo to Havana with its CRJ-200 aircraft. The frequency is expected to increase to four weekly flights at the end of 1Q 2019, with further routes planned in 2019 to Tortola, Antigua and Jamaica.
The carrier is also looking to launch services to Miami by 2019 end, following the acquisition of two A319s. However, the carrier is awaiting for the Dominican government to approve the flights.
