Air Botswana will be privatized in order to be operationally efficient as well as be valuable and attractive to potential investors.

Carrier to also implement a fleet renewal plan, "which will see the airline acquire new aircraft,” Minister of Transport and Communications, Kitso Mokaila said in his address to Parliament.

Mr Mokaila stated that Air Botswana’s model was that of a regional feeder airline, but the carrier would consider different operating models once "it is able to optimally and successfully operate its current model."

Th new aircraft will add to Air Botswana's existing fleet, as "fresh investment in new aircraft is planned and expected to aid the strategic thrust of Air Botswana."

The re-fleeting includes the new ATR72-600s, and also a jet, which will enable it to be more efficient in its route operations.

Privatization is expected before winter 2018.
