After five years since there were any flights between the two islands, Air Alderney recently confirmed a new direct service would commence this Spring. The actual schedule and ticket prices will be published soon. It also plans similar services between Alderney - Cherbourg, and Alderney - Lee-on-Solent.

However, the surprise is that initially the Alderney - Jersey service will be provided by helicopter! The airline will use a 14 passenger helicopter while it waits for Guernsey’s aircraft registry, 2-Reg, to issue the Air Operator Certificate for fixed-wing Islanders on that route.

Air Alderney “will start the Jersey service with a helicopter because of the delay with 2-Reg in Guernsey. They want to get the service off the ground sooner rather than later” said Steve Roberts, Member for States of Alderney.

In addition to the Alderney – Jersey route, an obvious second route would be Alderney – Guernsey. Currently Air Alderney has the necessary permissions from the Alderney authorities to provide a freight service but is still waiting on the corresponding permissions from Guernsey’s authorities.
