Aeromexico to seek legal action to prevent Emirates from launching its Barcelona route

Aeromexico CEO Andres Conesa says the company plans to seek legal action to prevent Emirates from launching its flight from Dubai to Mexico City via Barcelona, which drove the Mexican airline to cancel his own operation.

Conesa accused the foreign airline of receiving subsidies from the UAE government, therefore offering artificially low air fares.

The Emirates flight was originally allowed by the Mexican government on the grounds that it would improve connectivity to India, although Mr. Conesa says those claims are false and has led to unfair competition.

Emirates aims to take advantage of 'fifth freedom' rights on the route from Barcelona, allowing service to Mexico City.

Aeromexico recently removed its planned B787-8 service resumption on Mexico City – Barcelona route set for 01 November 2018.
