888 Macau Airlines eyes launch by 2020
888 Macau Airlines is a seeking US$45 million in funding to launch a hybrid airline. The launch is dependent on contesting Air Macau’s 25-year franchise agreement, which expires in 2020.
888 Macau Airlines may also be a part of a sub-concession agreement with Air Macau.
Founder Joseph Said, a senior manager at Viva Macau, said the new airline plans to fly to India, Thailand, Philippines, and Portugal via Greece or Cyprus, while working in partnership with casinos and travel operators to fill planes.
Said is currently looking for local partners to get the project off the ground, with plans to begin short-haul operations from Macau in 12 months, pending it secures funding.
The carrier's air operator's certificate is yet to be granted.
