Austrian Airlines carried almost 5.8 million passengers in the period January to June 2017, comprising an increase of around 690,000 passengers or 13.5 percent in a year-on-year comparison. This growth is mainly due to the airberlin aircraft, deployed within a wet-lease agreement, and the associated expansion of European flight offering as well as the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 7.6 percent to almost 12.3 billion. On balance, Austrian Airlines sold more than 9.0 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), corresponding to a rise of 8.2 percent from the previous year. Capacity utilization (passenger load factor) slightly increased by 0.4 percentage points to 73.6 percent.

The positive trend with respect to passenger volume also applies to the month of June 2017: Austria’s red-white-red carrier transported around 1.3 million passengers, equaling growth of 16.7 percent from June 2016. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 9.8 percent to 2.5 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) climbed by 13.6 percent to almost 2.0 billion. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 78.5 percent, up 2.6 percentage points compared to June 2016. The number of flights was increased by 7.4 percent in June 2017 to 13,187 flights.
