Riga-based Primera Air plans to set up new bases and expand existing ones, according to chief commercial officer, Anastasija Visnakova, as the carrier reaches a fleet of 40 aircraft by 2021.

Primera plans to add eight A321neos in 2018, followed by 10 B737 MAX 9s in 2019, and eight B737 MAX 9s, plus two A321LRs in 2020. The Group currently operates 10 aircraft, mostly B737NGs and its first A321neo.

Earlier in April 2018, the carrier launched flights from its London Stansted base to New York, Washington DC and Toronto. The Stansted base was chosen as the airline sees lots of demand from the immediate area, especially on flights to North America.

More routes are expected to be announced from Stansted in 2018, to North America and eastbound as well.
