Avinor’s Bergen and Kristiansand airports welcome Widerøe’s announcement to add five new links and further frequency increases on existing services during 2018, significantly expanding the gateways’ connectivity.

Following the recent confirmation of Widerøe’s domestic growth between Avinor’s Oslo, Namsos and Rørvik airports, the long-standing airline partner has now announced five new international links from Bergen and Kristiansand – arrival of the airline’s Embraer 190-E2s making the expansion possible. As of next summer, Bergen will launch three times weekly services to Billund (25 June), Hamburg (14 August) and Munich (13 August), while Kristiansand will welcome a four times weekly service to London Stansted (14 August).

“We’ve been working closely with Widerøe to invest in the future of Norway, our network of airports holds a significant attraction when considering new connections – we don’t offer just one airport, we offer a whole country!” explains Jasper Spruit, VP Traffic Development, Avinor. “The confirmed international expansion of our partner’s route network from Bergen and Kristiansand completely supports our focus to further develop tourism and business links across the whole Norway,” added Spruit.

Launching its first Danish and German connections from Bergen, Widerøe’s operations will expand the airport’s route map within these country markets as they join existing services to Berlin Schönefeld, Hamburg (launching June 2018) and Copenhagen. The Norwegian regional carrier has also confirmed a further weekly service to Gothenburg, the link to Sweden’s west coast to be offered twice-weekly as of 16 August 2018.

Significantly announcing Kristiansand’s first link to the UK, Widerøe’s new connection to London Stansted will mean the airline will offer seven international destinations from Southern Norway as of S18. At the same time, witnessing a demand for more domestic capacity, the carrier will also be increasing its existing services to Trondheim from daily up to three times daily, resulting in a notable 130% growth on this route.
