Miami, June 12, 2017 – The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced today that Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 12.8 million passengers in April, up 14% from the previous year, excluding domestic traffic in Brazil, marking the 68th consecutive month of passenger traffic growth for Latin America and Caribbean airlines.

Traffic (RPK) grew 16.8% and capacity (ASK) increased 8.9%, bringing up the load factor to 82.4%, equivalent to 5.5 percentage points higher than in April 2016 (see table 1).

Overall, Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 19.7 million passengers in April, up 9.8% - or 1,754,426 more passengers - from the previous year. Traffic (RPK) grew 13.6% and capacity (ASK) increased 7.5%, bringing up the load factor to 81.9%, 4.4 percentage points higher than in April 2016. Freight ton kilometers declined 5.4% in April 2017 as compared with the same month of the previous year, reaching 339 million FTKs (see table 2).
