Alitalia commissioners are implementing a "zero-cost" reorganization of the airline's network, waiting for the company to be sold to new investors. The strategy for the domestic market is for aircraft to operate as much as possible to increase revenue, while internationally routes will either be strenghtened or closed.

Rome Fiumicino to play a central role, with Los Angeles service extended into winter season, and new service planned from Rome and Milan Malpensa to New York, and from Rome to Boston, Los Angeles and Miami. For 2018, the airline has its sights on Africa.
